Make it easier to keep staff - Not create more jobs
We now have unemployment rates at 33year lows at about 4.2%. The Howard government is trying to get this below 4% while we don't really know what Rudd is probably trying to do the same. However, it's not about trying to create more jobs because we haven't got the people to fill the spots. It's about trying to keep the people we currently have in our team, improve productivity and drive economic growth this way. There are hundreds of thousands of employers who would welcome a hand in trying to improve productivity and retain good people. There are millions of employees who would want their employer to work hard to keep them, improve their skills and see a more productive workplace.
Talk to the employer and the employee. It is too easy for politicians to talk about unemployment rates. Let's focus on our productivity rates (maybe $/employee) and drive political speak around this number.
