Simple? If you got your hair done at any of our Universal Hair Salons, your friend could get up to the same value free. You spend $200, your friend can have $200 of service free. Easy to understand? What was our most common question? "What's the catch?". People were expecting there to be a catch, for some sneaky way to exhort more money out of you. There was no catch, there was no hidden detail, it was simple. The look on people's faces when they realised how simple it was, was astonishing. Even whilst they were getting their hair done they kept confirming the details. The champagne tasted even better when they finally accepted that there was no catch.
Why couldn't they just keep it simple. Spend over $500 and we'll give you a $50 gift voucher for your next visit. It works out less of a discount (I think) but would be 10 times more effective and give people a simple target.
In any promotion, if you can't sell the idea in 10 seconds or less, it's too complicated. We spend all day reading and trying to decipher stuff. Our brains are fried by the end of the day. make it easy, make it simple. Our lives are busy enough without trying to work out your "clever" promo.
